West Highland Way

The West Highland Way is Scotland’s most popular long distance walk. It is 96 miles long, starting in the central belt from the town of Milngavie and finishing in the highland town of Fort William.   

It is known for its stunning scenery and varied terrain.  The route passes through a mix of open moorland, forest and countryside and offers panoramic views of surrounding hills and mountains. Hikers will encounter a variety of flora and fauna including heather, bracken and deer.

The trail is well marked and well maintained and offers a number of facilities for hikers.

It is a challenging but rewarding walk that offers a unique and unforgettable experience of the Scottish Highlands!

The West Highland Way boasts many memorable moments, not to mention the camaraderie you are likely to find with other walkers. Here are just some of the many moments you will encounter whilst completing this walk.

7 Day Itinerary

This is an example of a 7 day/night itinerary, which is the recommended length of time for completing the walk, however we can arrange shorter or longer days.

Day 1-2

Travel through woodland and farmland as you leave Milngavie. Visit the Beech Tree Inn and Glengoyne Distillery. Spend the evening in the beautiful village of Drymen. Walk through Garadhban Forest and go over Conic Hill with stunning views towards Loch Lomond and the Highland Fault Line. Visit the Oak tree Inn in Balmaha before walking through the forest trails along Loch Lomond

Day 3-4

Discover Rob Roys cave. Decide to take the High road or the Low road  Search for wild goats as you walk along the shores of Loch Lomond, take time to stop at the Drovers Inn, one of Scotlands oldest hostelries. Enjoy the majestic falls of Falloch Reach the outpost village of Tyndrum and a chance of a well earned beer and stock up of supplies.

Day 5-6

Start the day skirting panoramic breathtaking Highland Mountains.  The route begins to become more mountainous.  Your legs accustomed to the walking every day.

Visit the Bridge of Orchy hotel with its fine selection of ales or press on to the walkers favourite Inveroran Hotel where you will be well looked after.

Cross the dramatic Rannoch Moor towards the iconic mountain Buachallie Etive Mor and the Kingshouse Hotel.

Tackle the devils staircase in Glencoe (don’t forget to look back!) and see your first sighting of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain.

Day 7-Home

Climb out of Kinlochleven through forests towards the great pass of Larig Mor, an old drovers road through scenic mountains.

​take in majestic sights of Ben Nevis as you approach Glen Nevis and your final destination.

​Reach the end in Fort William, celebrate with fellow walkers and the friends you will no doubt make on the way, 

​let the euphoria wash over you for completing the walk, and plan your next return or long distance walk!
